How To Find a Good Accountant (For Notaries)

Overview

Hopefully, we have convinced you that you need to use an accountant.  If not, be sure to read our article Why You Need to Use an Accountant for Your Taxes.  As I've said before, when you find a good accountant they are worth their weight in gold.  They can save you a ton of money and help you implement tax strategies to build wealth in long run.

How To Find a Good Accountant

So, how do you go about finding one?  We recommend you start with a Google Maps search for "certified public accountant".  Be sure to check their reviews.  Another great way to find one is to ask any friends you have who are also notaries.  With that being said, accountant’s are just like doctors, painters, electricians, and notaries...no two are equal!

Just because they are an accountant doesn’t mean they will know about notarial fees and how they reduce your self-employment tax.  So,it's absolutely critical that you talk to them first to make sure they know about notarial acts and how they affect your taxes and how to file your taxes correctly.  You wouldn’t believe how many times we have had users who go to a CPA and the CPA has never heard of it, and then we have to send them the link to the IRS publication.

The question I recommend you ask when you get them on the phone is “Can you explain to me how notarial fees work and how they affect my taxes?”.  If they can’t give you an in depth answer similar to what I have explained in this article, then move on and find someone else. You would be surprised how many don’t know about notarial fees and you shouldn’t have to educate someone who you are paying to know more than you do.
